Before the invention of carbonless paper, people wrote documents more than once or used carbon paper. The carbon paper is placed between the writing paper and the spear. This method gets the user's fingertips dirty. Carbon-free paper makes multiple copies of handwritten and printed documents easy and clean.
The advantage of carbon-free paper is that it is a biodegradable and stain-free alternative to carbon paper. NCR first produced this product and named it No Carbon Required or NCR Paper to make it an acronym for their company's national cash register.
Carbon-free copy paper is made from sheets of paper coated with dye or microencapsulated ink and possibly reactive clay. The back of the first sheet is covered with microencapsulated paint. The bottom sheet is covered on top with clay, which quickly reacts with the dye to form a permanent mark. The leaves are directly covered with clay on top and painted on the bottom.
When a person writes on carbonless paper, the pressure from the location of the writing vessel causes the microcapsules to burst and spill the dye. The capsule is very small, which makes the impression made by the mold very accurate.
